Lions Clubs International Convention 2013: World's largest NGO is meeting in Hamburg |
|
Hamburg, 2 July, 2013 (APA/OTS) - From 5 to 9 July 2013, around
25,000 guests from more than 200 countries are visiting the
North-German city of Hamburg on the occasion of the 96th Annual
Lions Clubs International Convention (LCIC). The world's largest
non-governmental organisation (NGO) is thus hosting its major
international meeting for the first time in Germany and for the
third time in Europe. |
For Hamburg, the LCIC 2013 is the largest congress hosted in the
city to date. The North-German port city ranks among the most
popular travel destinations for city breaks in Northern Europe. More
than half of the 25,000 guests are coming from Germany, Japan, the
US, China, and France. One of the highlights is the colourful parade of the Lions nations,
taking place on Saturday, 6 June around the Alster Lake in the heart
of Hamburg. During this festive parade, around 12,000 Lions from all
world regions are attiring in traditional dress to represent their
countries of origin. The Hamburg Metropolitan Region is one of Germany's strongest
economic regions and a central trading hub for Northern Europe. The
port of Hamburg is one of the world's largest container ports and is
an important growth engine for the region. The Hamburg Metropolitan
Region takes the leading role in Germany in such industries as
aviation, logistics, IT, renewable energies and media, while also
playing a major global role. With more than 100 consulates, Hamburg
is a highly international city that maintains excellent relations
with countries and regions worldwide. Numerous corporations have
their global or European headquarters in Hamburg and appreciate the
city's cosmopolitan flair.
